Ragu bake

I’ve never understood the need to buy a jar of sauce when this can be made so easily.

With it also containing far less salt, sugar and preservatives it’s so much better for you.

I tend to start this dish on the hob, then transfer to a low heated oven to bubble away for an hour.

This recipe can serve up to 6 people. However there is never any leftovers when I serve this up for 4 of us!



1lb Lean steak mince


Tinned tomatoes

3 × Garlic cloves (grated/crushed)

1 × onion (finely chopped)

Mushrooms (sliced)

Beef stock cube

Mixed herbs

1/3 glass/80ml Red wine (optional)


How to cook:

On a hob fry off the garlic, onions and mushrooms.

Add the lean steak mince and cook until browned.

Crumble the beef stock cube and add.

Pour in pasatta, tinned chopped tomatoes and red wine (if using).

Add mixed herbs and season to taste.

Transfer to oven, if required.

Top with mozarella and serve with large pasta tubes such as ragatoni, so the sauce gets inside it 😋
